MASSAGE THERAPIES

Swedish

Swedish massage is one of the most popular type of massage involving the use of hands, forearms or elbows to manipulate the layers of the muscles to improve mental and physical health. One of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body. Active or passive movement of the joints may also be part of the massage. The benefits of Swedish massage include increased blood circulation, mental and physical relaxation , decreased stress and muscle tension, and improved range of motion. one of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body.

Hot Stone

Hot Stone Massage is a true ritual, a specialty massage where the therapist uses smooth, heated stones as an extension of their own hands, or by placing them on the body.  The soothing warmth of smooth basalt stones melts through layers of stress and tension held in the muscles and the mind. The heat can be both deeply relaxing and help warm up tight muscles so the therapist can work more effectively.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu massage originated in Japan and utilizes the hands and palms--particularly the thumbs--to massage the body at specific points and treat many different conditions and encourage relaxation. Although often referred to as a form of massage, shiatsu is actually a form of energy work that balances the energy pathways in the body. The benefits of shiatsu depend upon the reasons for the visit and the duration of the therapy. Shiatsu practitioners report that people who go for regular treatments reap the most benefits, but that even one session can help relax the client and begin to clear the blocks in the energy.

Acupressure

Acupressure is a therapy that uses precise finger placement and pressure over specific points along the body. These points follow specific channels, known as meridians – the same channels used in acupuncture. Activation of these points with pressure (or needles) can improve blood flow, release tension, and enhance or unblock life-energy, known in China as “qi” or in the English-speaking world as “chi.” This release allows energy to flow more freely through the meridians, promoting relaxation, healing and the restoration of proper function.  Acupressure therapy can be used to relieve pain, reduce tension in muscles, improve circulation and promote deep states of relaxation.

Thai Massage

Thai massage, often referred to as "Thai Yoga Massage," is a deeply rejuvenating and balancing form of bodywork that originates from the traditions of Ayurveda and Thai Medicine. It is a unique and holistic practice that combines various techniques, including acupressure, yoga-like stretching, and rhythmic compression. During a session, the client is clothed and lies on a mat or firm mattress on the floor. The therapist uses their hands, knees, legs, and feet to gently guide the client into various yoga postures, while simultaneously applying pressure along the body's energy lines and pressure points. This form of massage is more than just physical; it's a meditative experience for both client and therapist, creating a harmonious dance of movement, breath, and energy. The stretches and pressure applied help to improve the client’s flexibility, relieve muscle and joint tension, stimulate internal organs, and balance the body’s energy system. The result is an all-encompassing sense of peace and vitality.

Reflexology

also known as zone therapy, is an alternative practice involving application of pressure to the feet and hands with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques without the use of oil or lotion. With repeated practice of applying pressure and manipulating nerve endings (traditionally in the foot), reflexology can help to clear any channels of blocked energy by moving the flow of blood, nutrients and nerve impulses to improve overall health and balance. In addition to manipulating the pressure points on the foot, reflexologists sometimes work on the hands or ears to trigger relaxation as well.  Reflexology cleanses the body of toxins, boosts the immune system, increases circulation, promotes healing, and balances energy.

Orthopedic Massage Therapy

is a multidisciplinary approach to relieving muscular and soft tissue pain, dysfunction, and injuries and helping clients regain and improve their health and fitness. Orthopedic Massage Therapy uses three major processes:  Functional musculoskeletal assessment, customized deep tissue and fascia massage, and systematic strength and stretch training and exercises.  Orthopedic Massage Therapy restores the body’s structural balance, significantly reduces acute soft tissue pain, and improves flexibility.  It is often used to treat:  Chronic pain and sports injuries, Thoracic-outlet syndrome, Frozen-shoulder, Rotator-cuff injuries, Bicipital tendinitis, Shoulder impingement, Carpal-tunnel syndrome, Tendinitis, Nerve entrapments, Progressive joint arthritis, Low back pain, Bulging discs, SI joint pain, Sciatica

Reiki

is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.  A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results.

Aromatherapy

also referred to as Essential Oil therapy, is the art and science of utilizing naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants to balance, harmonize and promote the health of body, mind and spirit.  It seeks to unify physiological, psychological and spiritual processes to enhance an individual’s innate healing process.

Deep Tissue

massage is aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, also called connective tissue. Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense. It is also a more focused type of massage, as the therapist works to release chronic muscle tension

Pre-Natal Massage

A safe, supportive and effective therapy for women in their 1st,  2nd and 3rd trimesters, pre-natal massage is done side-lying, with plenty of pillow support.  Massage helps women manage the growing discomforts, tensions and even anxiety that may accompany the profound transformation that takes place during pregnancy (as well as post-partum).  It can help ease headaches, aid sleep, reduce swelling and is incredibly beneficial for circulation, which directly impacts the flow of nourishment to the growing baby. Talk to your health care provider before starting any new therapy during pregnancy. If there are potential high risk conditions present, please provide written approval from your doctor.

Geriatric Massage

A therapy designed to address the specific needs of the elderly population. This type of massage for the elderly uses gentle and light application of massage techniques and can include passive stretching and a light oil or lotion to permit your muscles to be worked on without causing excessive friction to the skin. These techniques can help enhance blood circulation, combat depression, improve balance and flexibility, reduce the pain of arthritis, increase joint mobility, improve posture, and encourage overall well-being. Geriatric massage can be especially helpful for maintaining and improving overall health as we age. It also has been shown to relieve anxiety and provide comfort, especially to touch-deprived elderly clients.
